I love the idea of setting aside a special day to celebrate sweetness. Folks in Ohio and Pennsylvania celebrate Sweetest Day on the third Saturday in October. Some people complain it’s a purely commercial venture to sell cards, flower, candy, and boost business at pricey restaurants. But what if we just look at the ‘sweet’ part? As a soon-to-be-58-year-old in grad school, I need as much clarity of mind as I can find. I’ve made many discoveries in this program. One of the first is – I’m an introvert. I can be outgoing and social and extroverted as they come in public, but as soon as I’m home, I close the door and happily re-enter my peaceful and sweetly silent world.
Silence nurtures me. It offers a fertile field for my creative imaginings. I believe we all need a safe, sacred space to cultivate peace and inspiration. What’s yours? more »

What are your favorite ways of practicing mindfulness? I’m a big fan of walks in the park and journaling. Mindfulness is anything you do with your full attention. Deep listening is a wonderful way to practice mindfulness. It’s a call to slow down and be completely present in this moment. Right here. Right now. Breathe in the joy of life surrounding you.
